Discontent among the less fortunate......

.......Indian is very much perceptible all round for not being able to send their children to well-known private school. They also realize that public-funded schools are no good for quality education. Even most of the marginal private schools do not serve the much desired need. Still people prefer to send them to their children to these schools instead of sending them to public funded school even if they have to squeeze a little money for fees from their meager incomes.

Rani’s School is a Hindi medium marginal private school but students realize very well that their school status is far less than English medium school admission to which beyond the means of their parents. What makes them most restlessness is that they can’t learn to write and/or speak English well. They are keen and impatient to learn it but are helpless. No teacher is good enough for teaching English. Neither the school can afford good trained teachers, particularly English teachers. The best take-away salary of its teachers is not more than Rs.3500 ($78) including the principal’s remuneration.

Pushpa is Rani’s English teacher. She takes home Rs.1800 ($40) every month. She is not qualified enough to be effective neither she could be a good example from which students could derive inspiration. In this awful situation expecting something noteworthy will only be deluding.

Reforming this school or other schools in the near future seems quite improbable. What then could be done in the immediate future that can benefit the students of these schools?

While the debate is on, on ways that could enhance the standards of neighborhood school, we would like to experiment with the belief that is often vocalized in media which says that ‘in a knowledge economy, proficiency in English is the key to upward mobility’.

Ennworld aims to satisfy this intense desire of children by imparting English education to every child. That we believe can bring a radical cultural change and put the town’s progress and thinking on a fast track. The effect of which, we believe, will be far reaching and extensive.

To realize that purpose we have started contemplating over the prospect of running a only-English-school equipped with audio, video and modules suited for this purpose where students will be required to enroll for about 20/30 hours every month for a nominal fee (possibly free for first few sessions).

I Naseem. Congratulations on your Fair Trade Initiative. Your opinion on child labour is interesting; I would like to know what you think of the contradictory opinions of 'experts' on the question, though. See the 'CONSUMARCHY ETC' blog..
